New 20 GHz Bandwidth Optical Receiver

Ewing, NJ -- August 29th, 2000 - For immediate release

Discovery Semiconductors, Inc. introduces the first amplified optical receiver with typical -3 dB bandwidth of 100 kHz to 20 GHz, the Model DSC-R401ER. These fiber-coupled photodetectors are targeted at telecommunication system designers of OC-192/STM-64 systems using the Return to Zero (RZ) format with Forward Error Correction (FEC). To obtain low jitter and clean eye diagrams, systems designers need front-end bandwidth that exceeds the bit rate of 12.3 Gbits per second by 50%. This new InGaAs PIN and preamplifier provides that extra bandwidth along with 100 V/W and 2 Vp-p linear output. Delivery is with the user's choice of optical input connector.
